An Old Gag But a Good One
Bart Hinkle

I’m announcing a contest. First prize is a ticket to this event:

Former President Bill Clinton will campaign for the Obama-Biden ticket in Richmond. . . .

Second prize is two tickets.

Reader Comments:

Um, if you say so. All this sounds terribly partisan to me.

What one person sees as an insult and a lie another sees as truth incarnate.

That’s partisan politics.

Fact checking is needed because the candidates are only too happy to slip in a few exaggerations and distortions to get votes. The 501s have even fewer compunctions.

I don’t get fact checking from CNN. No offense to CNN, I just don’t watch them much. Don’t watch Fox much either (obviously).

Ed,

No…my FACTS are actual FACTS. Obama is a socialist, is associated with communists and other assorted leftist militants including a women who thought what Mansons “impassioned supporters” did was “far out” and is steeped in black liberation theology which is nothing more than race based Marxism.

You obviously take CNN’s discredited and blatantly partisan “fact checking” seriously. I’m not surprised.

As for you attempt to backpedal on your equating what was done to Bush with what McCain-Palin are doing, one problem, the accusations against Obama are actually true….not slogans or punch lines.

All you need do to see this truth is look at how Palin was treated by your ilk before she even opened her mouth. Not that the truth interests a man in hiding.

Rationalize young hero, rationalize…

Hey Larry! Wheelchair? Who? Even if Bill would be in a wheelchair, another Monica just gets on her knees. Maybe next time he will be a little more discrete—like rent a hotel room under an assumed name.

But then, it is only about character and we all know that is not important in American society anymore.

Simmertime, what can an old guy in a wheelchair possibly do to people’s daughters?

Roger,

You wouldn’t know FACTS if they hit you up the side of the head, and I’m sure you’ve been hit and dropped on your head multiple times in your lifetime.

The FACTS are fact checking has been done on what Palin has said and they are as a minimum smears and exaggerations.

As I said, it’s just politics, no proof she is some kind of nasty human being. It’s what you do to win an election.

I never said Bush was a Nazi, so your so-called FACTS are irrelevant. I said he deserved the poor treatment he has received because during his watch America went straight down the tubes, a sizeable portion of it attributable directly or indirectly to him.

As for your FACTS regarding Obama, I have said in the past I find Obama’s associations disturbing. I find McCain’s associations disturbing too. The Keating mess is just the tip of the iceberg.

Right now, it’s the economy stupid.

Speaking of character and beliefs, Clinton is visiting Richmond. Keep your daughters at home.

Hey RSmith and Larry, you hit the nail on the head! The RNC should be running commercials showing NObama’s connection to several left-wingers and America-Haters. “G-damn America” and “First time I’ve been proud of America” video should be shown over-and-over.

Any candidate can espouse positions that attract votes—NObama’s are geared to his black base and those in financial trouble. He has no plan to lead the majority of Americans. If he was not black, he would not even be the nominee.

This is not the time or place to elect someone based on skin-color. NObama has no qualifications to be President. Palin is actually more qualified. But just like with housing/mortgage financing we want to flirt with disaster.

“The McCain camp and their chosen point person Palin are slinging vile insults at Obama because they are behind in the polls, no other reason.

Vile insults were slung at George Bush because he deserved them, and that’s just what fellow conservatives dished out, the liberals being less constrained”

It’s as if the recent conversation on rationalization never occurred…

As for Palin, considering the bile that was slung at her, before she even left the convention hall…I don’t blame her, although I wouldn’t consider pointing out FACTS about Obama the same as supposedly reputable news organizations and Obama toadys claiming she was never pregnant with her last child or worshipped snakes or drug her daughters business out for ridicule while they attack anyone who questions Obama’s past or the comments of his wife.

And while there are no FACTS connecting Bush to “nazi” activity (if there were, all those attacking him would be in a mass grave right now)...there are FACTS tying Obama to a racist preacher, a communist bomber and various socialist organizations like The New Party and Acorn.

You may choose to rationalize away these FACTS…pretend intellectuals with anonymous screen names usually do…but they are FACTS nonetheless.

That’s the difference between a thinking man and a fool with a broad vocabulary.

The thinking man WANTS to know ALL the truth.

WILL HE DO IT, OR WILL HE NOT? The Jeremiah Wright “God Damn America” commercial. All boring debates aside, that’s the one thing that’s going to make the difference between winning and losing. If McCain saturates the airwaves with such a commercial, he’ll win.

If McCain continues to take the ‘safe’ route—making this comfy & cute little connection with Obama and a white 1960s radical who nobody cares about anymore—he will lose.

A or B. Win or lose.

The McCain camp and their chosen point person Palin are slinging vile insults at Obama because they are behind in the polls, no other reason.

We’re in the height of an election season and whether you bite your tongue about George or indulge yourself in smearing one politico or the other has everything to do with winning the contest, nothing else.

I do not blame Palin for being vile; she is probably being instructed by her handlers and only doing what must be done. I blame her for being Palin, which is to say a bit less than what was promised. Regardless, the veeps, not to mention former presidents, are not the primary concern on my mind.

It’s the economy stupid.
