Think of this as a public option to back up the public option:
To prevent premature deaths and the needless misery that are hallmarks of Canadian care, the British Columbia Automobile Association began offering waiting-list insurance to some of its members in August as part of a pilot program.
Those who bought the coverage would receive treatment in a private clinic in British Columbia or the U.S. if they were placed on a government care waiting list longer than 45 days.
The program, which took two years to develop, never got beyond the pilot phase, however. The association shut it down when critics howled and government officials checked to see if such a program was actually legal in Canada.
Brilliant. Probably ought to get rid of all the lifeboats on Canadian ships, too. It’s not fair if only some people get to live. . . .

Wow, I can learn alot from the liberal posters. First, I learn that Americans are stupid for living their own lifestyle, especially one that leads to obesity. Dumb, dumb, dumb…and Obama will do something about this stupidity come hell or high water. So there!
Second, I learn that conservatives are against good healthcare and kiss axx with anyone opposing good healthcare. Who knew?
Third, I learn that the insurance/pharmaceutical lobbies run the country. If they want something, then it happens. BUT, I thought that last Nov. the enlightened voters elected enlightened DEMs and the nations “first black president” to enlighten all of us about how unenlightened and cruel the rest of us are. How stupid I am.
And the reality is that the corporate Democrats are going to follow the insurance/pharmaceutical lobbies, just like the Republicans. The ‘public option’ is not going to matter, no matter what.

Did Bart write this or did a Insurance lobbyist borrow his computer. For a bold face lie like that post, Bart ought to get an Insurance lobbyist job and drop the facade of being a journalist.
The Canadian approval rate of its healthcare is well over 80%. In Europe, Israel, Japan, Taiwan, the other sections of the industrial world, national healthcare is welcomed and appreciated.
One thing about cons, they will always lapse into ideological denial when the facts are against them. The second thing is that they will always kiss the buns of any corporation that is under attack.
Thirdly, they love the flag but hate the people.
That was a cheap shot of the worst sort.
Deaths and misery ? Lies. Completely and totally bogus.
I could point out that no one would be howling for the insurance option to be shut down if the Canadian system was such a disaster, I could point to statistics like below:
http://healthcare-economist.com/2007/10/02/health-care-system-grudge-match-canada-vs-us/
US Canada
Life Expectancy (Male) 74.8 77.4
Life Expectancy (Female) 80.1 82.4
Infant Mortality/1000 live births 6.8 5.3
Obesity Rate (Male) 31.1 17.0
Obesity Rate (Female) 32.2 19.0
HC spending as % of GDP (2005) 16.0% 10.4%
I could point to the bogeyman close to the border as being all the Americans who flood into Canada to get medications and into Mexico to get affordable surgery.
Most of all I could point to the fact that Canadian healthcare is not Obamacare and never was and never will be. Not all government plans are the same.
But why talk sense when others only want to take shots. Please do not forget the healthcare industry is spending countless millions, over a million a day, advocating for or against various plans. Money talks.
