Ban Knives Now! (II)
Bart Hinkle

Murder is also on the rise in Washington, D.C., where gun laws also are quite strict, and haven’t changed yet despite the impending ruling in Heller. Another inexplicable mystery!

“Saying that everyone does it does not make it right.”

Ha!  Hehehehe… got a chuckle out of that.

Because that was not at all my point.

My point was, if I’m the kettle, you’re the pot.  You’re asking me to try to engage in intelligent debate; I’m telling you I thought I had tried that long ago, but it seems you’ll have none of it.

Saying that everyone does it does not make it right.

By the way, “bluck” should have been “blood.” As usual, composing faster than my fingers can type…

We need an “edit” feature…

Ed, I don’t know what more you want me to do.  Many, many, many times I have simply stated my position or opinion on a topic, and your response has typically been to make snarky comments.  If I disagree, you then tell me what a horrible human being I am.  I then ask you questions challenging your statement to get you to better define your position (i.e., “debate"), and your response has predicably been to tell me I’m attacking you, playing “gotcha”, calling you names and being a bully - and then you call me more names and tell me what a bluck-sucking wart on society’s ass I am.

I long ago gave up attempting intelligent debate here - at least with you.  This is the internet, after all - flaming and saying things to people you never would dream of saying to their faces is de rigeur.

“Intelligent debate will be the only real loss.”

Let me know when any of that shows up around here.

If you don’t think it exists, give it a try.

“Intelligent debate will be the only real loss.”

You have colossal nerve and a double standard the size of the Titanic.

But I don’t want to say anything more or you’ll accuse me of calling you names and being unfair to you.

Bill,

It’s true I don’t have ample evidence you are sociopathic. Greedy, parasitic, and way too full of yourself, yeah, that might stick. Or not.

Some day you will grow up and post responsibly without playing the Hitler card. Not today.

Look, I have no problem with concealed carry, no problem with stiff jail sentences or even capital punishment, not sure which gun ban you want to repeal either.

Do I think that will be sufficient to curb violence ?  Doubt it, plus we know current jail sentences are already producing overcrowding and minority backlash, so is that really a serious suggestion ?

The traffic stops in DC are a great idea in my opinion, because it is a direct response to a dire problem. If it doesn’t work, then we try something different.

You can guess how I would vote on the recent terrorist detainment act in Britain recently too. Does not mean I am not afraid of losing rights dating back to the Magna Carta. Only means I agree with the Britons who think they just “might” have a terrorist problem. Maybe they do. Could be.

Does that make me a stormtrooper. How can you get from way down there to way up there ? Leaps of logic and magic.

Is it really necessary to play the Hitler (Fascism) card in order to disagree. This is a hypothetical academic question. On one hand, I can see where it could be a lack of maturity to overreact. On the other hand if this blog is for libertarian philosophy, and oh my is it ever, someone far removed from that philosophy could be seen distinctly as highly unwelcome. I can appreciate that too.

I’m also aware that if I call you a blood sucking, etc. etc. you won’t be inclined to take my “juvenile” card seriously. Well, I don’t see any requirement there. Maybe it takes one to know one when you see one. Juvenile works, you ikky poop.

The bottom line is that I continue to believe Bart is absolutely correct in saying we should post “thoughtful and temperate”. Only thoughtful and temperate.

Please do not try to bludgeon me into unconsciousness when you disagree. If however you find me some kind of horror you can not speak to without the utmost revulsion I am agreeable to that also. Intelligent debate will be the only real loss.

Ed, to paraphrase Ronny Raygun, it’s not that you are ignorant; it’s just that you know so much that isn’t so.

When did I say you guys were Fascists ?

It’s your hyper-sensitive, paranoid sense of moral engorgement again.  You are not a victim Bill. Get over yourself.

Please, please, please, just get over yourself. You are not a victim. You are not a saint.  You have not been wronged. You just are not right in so many senses of the word.

Besides, if anyone did ever accuse you of being Fascist, which is an epithet I do not typically use, I’m sure you must be guilty of far worse.

You might even be a greedy and parasitic sociopathic blood sucking lawyer with no redeeming social qualities at all, even if your wife reputedly does admire you greatly, and your mentor Scalia would most certainly approve of his little demented love monkey if he knew you existed, which he might somehow, which is even far scarier.  Scares the bejeezus out of me.

Next time, do not accuse me of playing the Facism card and/or the Hitler card. Not my game. If you want to call me names, accuse me of runon sentences, and man up, fella. You don’t have to slip in snide innuendoes. Express your discontent. Get it all out big fella.

You are not happy. You will of course no doubt disagree, unless I make it clear I disagree, in which case you will disagree you agree or that I agree, or that you either agree or disagree that you disagree.  This is fine.

Gun control is a central issue because the left continues to make it so - although Hillary wised up and backed away from it.  Obama has tried to make it look like he’s backed away from it, but I’m afraid he’s got the potential to become the worst gun-banner since Marilyn McCarthy, Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer.  His history on the issue speaks louder than his current words.

I do not in any default to the position that there is no problem in D.C. and that nothing should be done.  There are several things that should be done; all of which have been time-proven to work.  None of them involve violating the Constitution, like D.C.’s current gun ban, which has proven totally, utterly and completely ineffective (besides the pesky detail that it’s blatantly unconstitutional) or stop-and-search of every car driving down a particular street - also blatantly unconstitutional.

Howzabout these:

1.  Repeal the gun ban and allow law-abiding citizens to own functioning firearms in their homes;

2.  Allow concealed carry permits;

3.  When you catch the scumbags perpetrating the crimes, PUT THEM AWAY.  I dont’ recall the numbers and don’t have time right now to look them up, but the majority of violent crimes are committed by people with prior records of violent crime, and in many cases, they are out on parole or probation.  This last one might be most radical notion - catch the bad guys, lock them up, and keep them there.

“I don’t like the idea of moving towards a totalitarian police state and/or infringing on rights, but it’s a question of which is the greater evil and what is the greater good.”

I think that’s about the scariest thing I’ve seen you write yet.  “It’s for the greater good”???  And you have had the gall to insinuate that Roger and I are Fascists?
