Best Line of the Campaign So Far (Maybe)
Bart Hinkle

And it comes from a local guy, Rick Gray, in a Back Page essay for Style:

Mainstream pundits assure us that an Obama administration would be transformational. Frankly, I suspect that — whoever we elect — the next administration will be more janitorial than transformational.

Reader Comments:

I have been blogging for too long not to notice distinct trends. Every election cycle the conservatives seem to trot out smears and innuendoes to undermine (successfully) the Democrats.

Which makes me suspicious of Greta’s post even if I don’t fully repudiate it or dismiss her right to her opinion or even the chance she is correct as stated.

Obama is liberal. Whether this is worthy of fear and loathing is something you should decide for yourself, not have others conveniently decide for you. Too conveniently.

I see no such problems with single payer health systems. I see major problems with the current setup.

Pragmatist Party is an excellent name and focus for a new party (not that we will ever see it). (just being pragmatic)

Obama has all these “shady” people he is connected to ? Duh. Both parties have an abundance of shady people. It is nothing more than a smear tactic. Smears work better actually than factual proof because you can fight a fact but how can you fight a “possibility” ?

When did you stop beating your wife ? An honest answer please. C’mon. Fess up.

I read Mr. Rick Gray’s column in the Chester News every week. Although I do not always agree with his philosophies I can always look forward to a good read. This essay however is outstanding. It is wonderfully written and the quote absolutely memorable. I too consider myself a pragmatist. I think we should have our own party. Although I do subscribe to the old adage “If one is not liberal in youth one has no heart. If not conservative in old age one has no sense.” I have too many ties to Canada and Europe, England in particular to ever
support the single-payer health care system. There was an excellent article in the NY Times recently about the Mess in Mass. that their entry into a similar program has engendered. I agree totally about Senator McCain. I believe he is a good and honest man. As honest as a man can remain after years in the trenches in Washington. Pragmatically speaking. I disagree heartily with his immigration policy and supported him on his version of the new GI Bill. I concur with Mr. Gray in his feelings about Mr. Obama. “Uneasy” is precisely the word I have been using to describe my reluctance to jump on the Obama train. I of course researched his background but more importantly I slogged through his entire voting record and when he actually did vote his record is ultra liberal in the extreme. His Chicago lakefront liberal machine has some very shady individuals at the helm, and not just the ones that we see on tv at every turn. I like Mr. Gray’s use of the term
of “exploding entitlement programs” I am afraid if Mr. Obama is elected we ain’t seen nothing yet. Creeping soft socialism and the disgraceful cynically chic anti-Americanism that has reared its ugly head during this campaign may become the order of the day. I agree with Mr. Gray’s unique and well thought out agenda for the next 8 years. Perhaps Mr. McCain’s LibCon bipartisan approach can pave the way in four years for the Pragmatist Party candidate in 2012?
Bravo Mr. Gray!

Bob, you’re dissing Hillary!  It’s not over yet, and she’s fighting all the way to the White House!  She’ll make sure every vote from Michigan and Florida gets counted, even if she has to take her case to the Supreme Court.  (paging Al Gore).

Truly a cynical quote.  I love it. We have a two party system ( which is one party more than a one party system ) and call it the greatest democracy on earth.
So, everybody, vote for the lesser evil of your choice. Obama, the boy wonder of politics or Admiral Insane
