Bosnian Sniper Story: Two Theories
Bart Hinkle
May 05, 2008 11:00 AM

According to this Huffington Post piece, Hillary wasn’t lying about sniper fire at the airport in Bosnia, because

as a political calculation, this would have been crazy.

So Ellen Ladowsky offers another theory:

. . . more persuasive to me, Hillary believed what she was saying and her description of her Bosnia trip was a true representation of her psychic reality and not external reality. In her internal world, Hillary may feel as though she’s always being shot at by sniper fire and that she’s heroically managed to stay alive.

Believing that the outer world conforms to your interior fantasty is known, I think, as psychosis. So Ladowsky is saying that Hillary isn’t crazy—she’s nuts. Some defense!

Ladowsky does offer herself an escape hatch with this graf: “The sensed [sic] of a shared reality is fundamental to the functioning of the world. In the same way that delusions and hallucinations are so disturbing, or that contradicting a child’s perceptions is so traumatic, so Hillary’s story constituted a jarring attack on our sense of common reality.“

In that telling we only have a sense of a common reality, not an actual common reality. Call it the phenomenological defense. Just bring Edmund Husserl into the conversation and the pub precincts are yours!

P.S.: This argument opens up a can of worms for any Hillary supporter tempted to buy it. Couldn’t some wiseacre in the GOP say, along the same lines, that George W. Bush didn’t really lie about Iraq—because he actually believed everything he said? In his own mind, he was telling the truth as he knew it!

“Why talk healthcare when you have Bill and Monica to drag up for the umpteen thousandth time.“ I guess rolemodeling for the youth of America is not important. Maybe the happy couple started the oral sex movement amoung middle schoolers. Of course, they did not rolemodel how to prevent the spread of STDs. But then it was only about sex, a personal decision.

I agree. You are all about nothing.

Political bullshit.

There should be more discussion of substantive issues and less of this fictitious dog doo.

Hillary is delusional ? Good for a laugh. Bart quoting from Huffington for any reason whatsoever is good for another laugh. R. Smith correct. That poofy chick is trying to get some mileage out of her expensive degree.

Why talk healthcare when you have Bill and Monica to drag up for the umpteen thousandth time.

“It’s a tempest in a teapot, stuff and nonsense, a whole lot of nothing.“ Probably applies to:

Bill and Monica—after all it was only about sex.

Obama’s favorite preacher—after all it was only about values, standards and racism.

Michelle O’s “first time in my life I am proud of America—more values and standards.

Big Al’s claim to have invented the Internet and the basis for “Love Story”—let alone being a Nobel Prize winner.

Black leaders whining about more blacks being in prison then whites. Of course it has nothing to do with culture.

Thinking you are in slightly more danger than you really are is grandiose thinking but hardly delusional.

The delusion is in thinking this business about sniper fire is significant. It’s a tempest in a teapot, stuff and nonsense, a whole lot of nothing.

Typical Washington politics.

It invites us to dive right in and sling mud at our favorite villains when in fact there is no beef on this bun.

(to mix metaphors)

Everybody in America, whether they were a draft dodger, cook in the stateside Army, or combat vet, or knew someone who was, thinks they are General Mac Arthur.
This society has more arm chair generals, vets, Special Forces wannabees, tough guys and girls.
Why should Hillary be different ?

No, because republicans lie. Democrats live in conflicting “realities”.

Just like republicans are racists while democrats self segregate according to multicultural sensitivity.

or republicans are “islamophobic” while democrats are simply protecting the 1st amendment when they mock Christians.

Sounds like the chick at HuppPuff is trying to get some use out of that psycology degree daddy paid 75 grand for.
