In light of last week’s ruling by the California Supreme Court sanctioning gay marriage, perhaps it’s worth posting a brief reminder that the states with the highest divorce rate are in the Bible Belt. (Trend figures here.) If correlation really were causation, then that would suggest intolerance of homosexuality causes family breakup, no?
Why gay marriage should be considered a threat to the traditional nuclear family is one of the great mysteries of the age. How many heterosexuals have ever said to themselves, “You know, I was going to try to make my marriage work—but now that homosexuals can marry, forget it—I’m outta here”?

Ah, guys, I thought we were talking about the alleged “threat” of homosexual unions?
We know that they are perceived as threatening by many people, but I suggest that these are the same sorts of people who used to feel threatened when a black man, or later a long-hair, walked by. That is, they feel threatened by people who represent things that are different and unfamiliar.
We call it xenophobia.
As just two examples of the disconnect between a perceived threat and an actual threat, recall the guy in Texas who shot an Oriental college student who knocked on his door, or recall the attacks on Sikhs by idiots who conflate wearing a turban with being an Islamic terrorist.
What I can’t understand is why all these people who claim to be in favor of “traditional marriage” reject the idea of a REAL one: one man, and as many wives and concubines as he can afford.
BTW, RSmith, I may be a bit slow, but could you explain “Celebrate the COVER!!! Ban the BOOK!“
How so: “Obama has got some ideas that resonate”? Where did you hear about any ideas from Obama? I have heard none.
So far, he claims: “uniter, bring us together, broken healthcare, corporations are bad, broken economy, etc. But, no fixes or “ideas”. He can talk the talk, but can he walk the walk?
So far, his “walk the walk” behavior has revealed: racist Rev. Wright spiritual leader, hate-America wife, and ties to crooks and arabs. Sound like a good US Presidential candidate?
Ps. (And sorry to put gays on the back burner) but I think the Democratic Party & political observers have some reeeaally blurred vision in regards to the potential race. Folks like our own Governor Tim Kaine. They seem to think that Obama is a more viable candidate vs. John McCain.
HA!!!
Obama has got some ideas that resonate, sure, but he has absolutely no experience in getting his arse kicked. Which means that any savvy Republican strategist can easily unleash a series of blows, cheap shots, etc., and Obama will not know how to handle them. He’s never had his arse kicked before. I believe that John McCain—savvy old coot that he is—can take Obama down with one punch. He’d have a much harder time with Hilary.
Its important to have that fighting experience. Obama has got none. Zero. K.O. First Round.
Point well-made, R. Smith.
Larry,
You are Soooo out of touch!
When a white person votes for a candidate because they’re white…that’s racism.
When a black person (or an image obsessed white leftie) votes for a black candidate because they’re black, that’s called “race consciousness”.
And stop bringing up Obama’s “friends”.
The worst kind of racist is one who calls a racist a racist!
The gripe against marraige isn’t so much about the marraige as it is the ham fisted push to legitimize homosexuality. it’s a symbolic move.
Personally, I could care less but, I won’t support it because it’s all part of the fraudulant diversity jihad.
Celebrate the COVER!!! Ban the BOOK!
It may be inevitable…who knows…but I’ll do all I can to see it undermined if only because I don’t care for speech thugs and mind crime nazi’s.
Besides, if gayness is biological, which many claim it is, then gay marraige will ultimately lead to the end of the line anyway. Just like us red heads.
“So anyone favoring McCain is a racist? Hmmm.“
According to some people yes—but you ain’t hearin’ that from me! I do like Obama just fine though—at least I like his stand-up-for-the-little-guy positions—but am repulsed by some of his followers. When I saw the results from states like N.C. and S.C. (where something like 99.99999999999% of blacks voted for him) I felt there is something screwy going on here.
I don’t like the idea of choosing the next president based solely on race, which is what the African-American voters of N.C. & S.C. are trying to do. Goes against all of my principles. If I had my way it wouldn’t be allowed.
How trite: “Seriously though: If one is comfortably heterosexual then one wouldn’t fear being ‘influenced’ by homosexuals.“ In other words if one mentions anything against homosexual behavior then they must be a latent homo?
Hardly wait to see your opinion on issues between black ObamaSama and white J.McCain. So anyone favoring McCain is a racist? Hmmm.
Welcome back Simmertime. No doubt: Dr. Mark Becton, D.C. Stephenson, Pete Peters and Joe McCarthy would see it your way too!
Seriously though: If one is comfortably heterosexual then one wouldn’t fear being ‘influenced’ by homosexuals. Don’t get me wrong—I am not FOR homosexual marriage but at the same time it doesn’t threaten me or my family in any way.
People like Doug Wilder are more of a direct threat to sane living.
Our acceptance of abnormal behavior as the norm, including the raising of children reveals the inner sickness of American society. An anything goes society based on low behavior standards and nothing is ever wrong.
A perverted society where homosexuals are now considered civil rights crusaders for the right to behave abnormally. Instead of treatment, they are celebrated and given permission to invade the rights of others.
A society is based on similar values of those who want to live in it. The US is rapidly becoming a society of misfits. A diverse society with little backbone and ambivolous beliefs.
