Gays in the Military

It’s time to end “Dont’ Ask Don’t Tell,“ says today’s column:

Discharges topped out at nearly 1,300 in 2001. But after 9/11, the number of gays and lesbians sent packing dropped, to 428 last year. Unit cohesion, recruitment quotas, and the warrior esprit of the war-fighter do not seem to have declined in tandem. . . .

Serving alongside a homosexual isn’t going to kill anybody. But codifying rank prejudice against homosexuals in federal statute is, like racial segregation, an affront to the guarantee of equal protection under law. It threatens the ideals embodied in the Constitution. If America’s men and women in uniform are willing to die for those ideals, then they can put up with a homosexual in the next bunk for the sake of them, too.

Reader Comments:

Don’t ask don’t tell = Be smart: Don’t broadcast your personal likes or dislikes. There’s no need for it. = Don’t go lookin’ for trouble and you won’t find any.

Just good old fashioned logic.

But old-school wisdom such as that apparently horribly out-dated. Its more important to FLING your sh*t right into people’s faces—‘Cos you got a right . I’ve got rights.

I gotta right to speak my mind & I’m gonna speak it—LOUD!

I’ve got a right I,I,I, ME, ME, ME!

But ok, if they drop “Don’t ask don’t tell”, well, it ain’t gonna phase me none. Not exactly on my agenda of important things.

But I felt the policy was fair enough.

Heck, if the homosexuals want to die so badly, I am sure there can be found a few good ol’ boys willing to put them out of their misery, so there’s no need to inconvenience your local recruiter.

Given that homos are only 1-3% of the population, and there is no eagerness on the rest of the other 97% of us to serve in uniform with them, then there is no rationale for changing the current policy which allows a homosexual to serve as long as they do not flaunt their sexual orientation.

The only reason why this story keeps getting play is because the media is packed with a disproportionate number of homos.

Personally, I don’t care, I don’t take the whole gay thing any more seriously than I do the Wiccan thing. If that’s what they want to do it’s not my business, as long as they don’t try to censor discussions on the subject as liberals and leftists usually do.

Liberals created the fake disorder of “homophobia” as a way of shutting down discussion on the subject of gay rights, much in the same way they created the phrase “denier” in order to avoid having to defend their fake science cloaked power grab wrt global warming. However, if it is a disorder, are those who have it now protected as well? There are no fad disorders that I can think of that liberals aren’t in favor of creating a favored and protected class for. Drunks, junkies, clepto’s, people who believe Obama….these are all victims of a mental dysfunction and should be excused for behavior they simply can’t help.

Of course, I realize there is a big difference between the disorders the left fabricates to smear those they disagree with and a real disorder. I’m just wondering how they will dismiss this latest inconsistancy.

Mr. Hinkle, I respect you and your usually iron-clad arguments.  However, you are wrong on this point.  The only ways gays should be allowed to serve in the armed forces is if homosexual men join rank with heterosexual women and lesbians join rank with heterosexual men.

Anytime there is even a spark of sexual tension, there is anxiety and division.  There is no reason to add this additional pressure to the military.
