One of the great things about the blogosphere is the degree of hyperlocal attention that can be paid to community news—items such as fires, break-ins, and block parties that matter a great deal to those in the immediate vicinity, but not to people more than a few miles away. A new kid on the block (pardon the expression) is Hills and Heights, which focuses on the Forest Hill corridor of Richmond.
It joins others such as Church Hill People’s News and West of the Boulevard News. For lots more local blogs (though not all of the hyperlocal-news variety), head over to RVAblogs.

Yes, I’m aware of that! Why start adopting new words just for the sake of appearing hip or whatever (?)—the purpose of these neighborhood-news pages is to provide something far greater. Its a follower vs. leader issue with me.
But I suppose I veered to far off-topic with my comment anyhow. I still think each of these blogs are excellent in what they do. Hopefully more will blossom.
Larry, “hyperlocal” may be an “insipid” description but it’s a term that the “MSM” (main stream media—another inspid term) uses to describe that type of content.
Over time, the term became adopted by the very community that creates that type of content—not the other way around.
Bart, in my opinon these sites are great. I think they provide a healthy service to the respective neighborhood.
But I don’t like the cutsie term “hyperlocal”—not that you’d made-it-up but I see that some of the blogs proudly refer to themselves as such. The use of that insipid description is a turn-off. Its like emblazoning an important presentation with a high-res .jpeg of Daffy Duck.
