Sabato’s Crystal Ball has some more postgame analysis, including this:
Democratic National Committee Chairman and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine is also high up on the list of losers. He presided over an electoral debacle in his own state. Unlike his predecessor, Gov. Mark Warner, he failed to prepare the way for a Democratic successor in Richmond and probably made a serious mistake in becoming chairman at all. It took him out of state too much and made him a partisan rather than a unifying figure. National ambitions have tripped up four of the last five Virginia governors. When you only have one four-year term, maybe the voters expect you to take care of business at home. Bob McDonnell might want to remember that when he is touted for the 2012 national GOP ticket.

OK, I will also vacillate on Kaine. He was a good of governor as any of the rest of them. Actually he did the common sense thing of cutting jobs, people and expenses. Unfortunately all of us are burdened with Kaines, Chichesters, Norments, etc. who look for opportunities to spend tax revenue. When times are good they look for ways to spend extra/surplus monies, then when times are bad they look for ways to fund the same unneeded programs or throw tight money after bad. It is a never-ending cycle. Most voters could not care less.
This may be another case where the pundits are busy talking to themselves while not listening to us chickens in the coop back on the farm. Hard to say.
As just one Independent I did not pay much attention to Kaine’s out-of-state forays one way or the other. He was slightly higher profile than he could have been. He seemed too liberal for my blood (his friendly immmigration stance, for instance).
I did not and do not have anything big against Kaine. Good man maybe. The problem is the main thing I and most remember about Kaine is how many people he laid off and how many programs he cut back and how weak he is leaving Va.
It does not matter he has only limited responsiblity for the bad news. It sticks on him as governor. Not fair. Warner pulled some magic and escaped the bad news. Could that be unfair ?
Pundits want to do esoteric analysis of trends and conclude there were winners and losers, but I wonder if there were none, just voters turning a bit mean and unhappy during bad times.
Stop it Bobby! You are insulting one of the tin gods of Obamaland. He is for climate control, universal healthcare, govt. control over obesity, gift-giving to the poor, unemployed benefits forever, and so many things that you support. How can you not love this man? That is another issue you like.
For reasons diferent than my conservative “friends”, Tim Kaine was a sellout and an idiot when he was mayor in Richmond. That has not changed. He will continue down that path. Defintely not a multi-tasker ,Gov and chairman. Plus the Dems were stupid to give him the job.He hardly was the organizer that Howard dean was.
