A follow-up to the earlier post below, “What We’re Up Against,“ is this editorial from Investor’s Business Daily. Money graf:
Palestinian parents have been known to take out classified ads in local papers celebrating the death of their offspring in jihad. They read like wedding announcements.
Some occasionally try to draw a false moral equivalence between the inadvertent and unintentional killing of children by American military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and the cult of death that encourages and celebrates the deaths of children. For more on that subject, check out—again—the invaluable work of Memri.org, such as “Iranian Animated Film for Children Promotes Suicide Attacks”. There is simply no U.S. (or Israeli—must mention Israel, I suppose) equivalent to the state-sponsored glorification of the killing of innocents that is common in many Arab states.
And then there are these photos, from the Ashura observance (a day of mourning for Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad), during which cutting and self-flaggelation as forms of blood offering occur among the Shi’a. Before there is any knee-jerking about beating up on Islam as a whole, let’s stipulate that not all Shi’a participate in the flagellation, nor does all flagellation occur in the Islamic world. Los Hermanos Penitentes (a group of Catholic men in New Mexico and Colorado) engage in flagellation and other forms of body mortification.
Still. If there were pictures of smiling Christian parents cutting their kids here in the U.S., we’d call Child Protective Services in a heartbeat. So, no, I wouldn’t say it’s beating up on Islam to suggest there is some seriously unhealthy thinking among a sizeable number of its adherents.
Reader Comments:
The evil reflected in these pictures only supports the underlying evil of islam. A religion of hate, persecution, surpression and death. islam has no redeeming qualities and should be put out of its misery, now our misery.
Unfortunately letting the media make decisions for US military instead of Generals, means that islam will be around for awhile. Maybe we need several more 9/11s?
So Bob, are you saying McVeigh was justified in blowing up the OK Fed Bldg?
Did those people “reap” what they had sewn?
Bob:
What was sewn and by who, when Hitler went on his rampage, prior to the Jewish state?
Is Samson is the first suicide bomber in history?
You reap what you sew. It was western powers that created Israel from Palestine
with the Balfor Declaration. Now Arabs are acting like abortion clinic bombers or McVeigh in Oklahoma City.analysis
Rick,
I think the moderates are waiting to see who wins the war of wills. It doesn’t always pay to have us as allies. The South Vietnamese learned that, as well as the Iraqi Kurds. And, of course, there is the present situation, which doesen’t inspire confidence. Why should these phantom moderates stick their necks out, literally, only to find themselves abandoned for the sake of political expedience or trendy, bubble gum ideology?
R. Smith, I agree 100 percent with your Japanese death culture analogy and that there is hope, but we must first break that culture and demoralize the people involved.
On all of that we agree.
I think what Margie and I were speaking of is the millions of silent muslims all around the world and even in this country.
Why dont they speak out against the extremest who have hi-jacked Islam.
Either they silently agree with the death culture or they are affraid to speak out.
I think its a little of both.
I know that any muslim who speaks out will be a target including their family.
I also think a good many hope the suicide culture is successful and that they are successful in bringing the western culture to its knees.
I know the Lewis Farakhan Muslims feel exactly this way.
Also there is the media who never shine their cameras on any muslim who denounce Hamas, PLO, and Hezbala, because it doesnt fit the story line being portrayed.
I think Glenn Beck is the only media personality that I have seen with the courage to tell america whats realy going on.
He has had some muslim leaders who are moderate and denounce the suicide cult on his show.
Unfortunatly he is only one in a sea of hundreds.
It needs to be reported as often as the death count for U.S. military is being splashed on the screen.
The muslims who speak out should be a household name the same as Jack Murtha and Cindy Sheehan are.
I don’t think it’s fear so much as the death culture. remember, the Japanese created the same culture with the Kamakazies. This isn’t something that just happens overnight. This kind of culture is bred over decades. To look at the Japanese today, you’d never believe they once glorified that culture so, there is hope. However, this kind of culture must be broken. It will never reform itself.
I beleive they are living in fear.
It would take too long for me to explain here, but you will just have to take my word that they are in fear of their lives if they speak out.
Maybe Bart will do a column on the culture of fear.
I’m not attacking Islam,I’m questioning it’s interpretation by most Muslims.
