First the Virginia GOP gave the commonwealth “macaca” and the marriage amendment.
Then Virgil Goode’s comments on immigration.
And now this:
How far do these calls for apologies go, wondered [Delegate Frank] Hargrove, a member of the House Rules Committee that could take up McEachin’s resolution as early as Wednesday.
“Are we going to force the Jews to apologize for killing Christ?“ Hargrove wondered. . . .
“I personally think that our black citizens should get over it,“ Hargrove said of slavery, which existed in Virginia from 1619 until the Civil War. “By golly, we’re living in 2007.“
(Hat tip: The Richmond Democrat—relying on, one must note, the mainstream media.)
There might be one or two minorities Virginia Republicans haven’t insulted yet. But give them time.
“By golly, we’re living in 2007,“ Hargrove says. If that’s the case, then a lot of his colleagues never got the memo.
Reader Comments:
I wonder if the prior is from the same R. Smith with the letter to the editor in the current C-Ville Weekly, defending Rep. Goode for his attack on Rep. Keith Ellison’s religion.
Mr. Hargrove is right. Blunt, but right. The guilt mine is about picked out. Conscience and good will no longer undermine the discussions on race in America. The “discussion” is scripted. Fear and intimidation blunt free expression. No good can ever come from such an environment.
What has happened at Duke, the reaction of the university faculty, the press, law enforcement, and especially the civil rights industry tells me all I need to know about the state of race relations in America.
So, Mr. Hargrove is right. AS long as blacks continue to obsess over slavery and Jim Crow, they will continue to be bitter, resentful, angry and stunted. It’s as simple as that.
Vive le MSM!
