‘Our Inalienable Rights . . . to Publish Whatever the Hell We Want’
Bart Hinkle
January 14, 2008 2:40 PM

This ringing defense of of freedom of the press makes me want to stand up and cheer.

The Alberta (Canada) Human Rights and Citizenship Commission is investigating a magazine publisher’s decision two years ago to print some infamous cartoons that offended some Muslims. Ezra Levant, the publisher of the Western Standard, isn’t backing down. He has reprinted the cartoons, and in the video below, he tells his government interrogator just what she can do with her investigation.

Reader Comments:

I’ve heard reference to this story somewhere before. Hmmmmmm.

These are the same diversity goons who are going after Mark Steyn for printing a passage in his book “America Alone” that refers to muslims breeding like mosquito’s. Actually, they’re going after Steyn AND the magazine McLeans for reprinting the excerpt.

Trouble is…the words weren’t Steyns but the words of a radical Imam who was bragging about the inevitable death of Western Civilization due to low Western birth rates vs high muslim birth rates.

So the “Human Rights” Courts are persecuting Steyn and McLeans because they “create a hostile environment for muslims” by quoting….muslims.

And like I said earlier, this is headed our way if we don’t stop it. These kangaroo courts already dominate our universities and the mentality has infected much of our media leading to indefensible self censorship.

Larry, if you had sat there silently you would have been doing exactly what they wanted you to do…which is shut up. Remember, these aren’t the McCarthy hearings…just McCarthy tactics from the left. Sitting in silence only works when you have a media willing to speak for you. That’s not the case today.

The guy is not a nut; he’s a hero.  He should get a medal.  That woman is a stone cold, moronic, bureaucratic drone.  What an absurd question!  If that be the law, then the law is an ass indeed.  He was dead on, absolutely 100% correct.

I only hope I would have the guts to do likewise were I somehow in a similar situation.

That guy is a stone-cold NUT. I agree that people should write (and say) anything they want to—but he went way over the deep-end with his explanation. (I wouldn’t have said anything, myself. Just smiled). He spoke as though he his E.D. medicine hadn’t been working lately, or, his Xanax had worn-off or something.
