Today’s column discusses the Supreme Court.

Reader Comments:

Remember that movie “Scanners” from the 1980’s?

I feel like my head is going to explode.

I’ve just been reading some of the various editorials linked at RCP as well.  E.J. Dionne is some special kind of idiot.  Dear lord, the distortions, inanities and asinine statements in that one brief article truly are breathtaking.

He repeats Stevens’ whine:

“The court majority, Stevens said, ‘would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of weapons.‘“

Uh - yeah - that’s right.

What if we rephrase that to highlight the absurdity of Stevens’ complaint:

The court majority, Stevens said, “would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of printing presses.“

It kinda seems to me that the whole purpose of enumerating a right in the Bill of Rights is to “limit” regulation of that right by elected officials, no matter how much they might “wish” to regulate.

There are a couple of good op-eds over at Real Clear Politics too. I like this line from a WSJ column concerning Breyers twisted anti-logic….

“As Justice Scalia notes, this is not how we normally protect individual rights, and was certainly not how Justice Breyer protected the individual right of habeas corpus in the military tribunals case decided just two weeks ago.“

There’s also one by a WaPo writer named King that has to be the most idiotic I’ve read in a long time. And E.J.Dionne is at his tail chasing best as well.

It always amazes me to watch people go thru such distortions of logic and reason when simply saying “I was wrong” would be so easy.

Apparently, Bart is better informed on the courts than I am. But it is amusing to watch conservatives whine that these liberal justices are just ruining the country. Conversly, liberals whine that
the conservative wing is just ruining the country. And everyone who is not a lawyer is a lawyer.
