Politics and Violence
Bart Hinkle

Friday’s column offers a reminder that to pursue social goals through government action is, ultimately, to pursue them through an implied threat of violence.

Reader Comments:

A clever column; I just read it now. What Bart seems to be saying is this: If you’re concerned about revolutionary militias forming in the U.S., then you can blame intrusive socialistic policies (such as Obama’s).

I won’t take sides on that, only to say that I do have some socialistic leanings.

What I will throw into the stew is this: I cannot blame the Iranian govt for their so-called violent quashing of protests. Those wild students are throwing bricks & bottles at police. A good billy clubbing is in order. I don’t care the reason for the protest. If, on the other hand, those kids were quiet, orderly & civilised protesters, then maybe I could empathize with their cause.

QUESTION—many here in the U.S. thought that Bush “stole” the election several years ago. Remember that? Would we be so ‘warm-hearted’ about protest if Gore fans over here took to the streets, lighting fires???

I’ve been to a few gun shows - but it’s been a while.  I don’t recall ever seeing Nazi or Klan “propaganda”.  In fact, I’m doubting most gun-show organizers would be too happy or willing to allow such a thing at their gun show.

I have seen WW II relics and souvenirs, such as daggers, flags, uniforms, firearms, etc., from Nazi Germany.  But selling a historical artifact - even one with a Nazi swastika on it - can hardly be equated with “propaganda” in favor of a particular ideology.  There are plenty of people who collect WWII stuff, even such items.  That hardly makes them Nazis or white supremacists.

More of Bob’s ridiculous stereotyping.  Talk about paranoid.

Hey Bob, I’ve seen white supremacist propaganda at flea markets.  I guess that makes everyone who attends a flea market a racist, by your, uh, “logic”.

Bob and his friends seem to have a problem whenever they get out in public.
From seeing no people of color at the tea party (I have a video to disprove that) to seeing “all the “open Nazi/Klan propaganda at gun shows.
I cannot vouch for the gun shows never having been, but I get the feeling that Bob and his friends tend to “see’ things through ideologically tinted glasses.
People don’t carry guns because they are scared. They carry guns because they are smart.

stoogebob,

That’s funny. I’ve been to a hundred gun shows and I’ve never seen any nazi or klan propaganda. I’ve seen plenty of WW2 memorabilia and collectibles…stuff brought home by soldiers after the war, but the people who sell these things usually have a sampling of everything. I guess that if I used your definition of propaganda then we would also have to keep an eye peeled for those sneaky Japanese Imperialists, Napoleonic nasties and pesky Cherokees.

And besides, if you want to get into that argument…you know, the one where you deflect attention from the extremists you run with by pointing out some bad behavior on the other side…then we can play that game to.

We could start by looking behind the scenes of the “anti war” movement at communist groups like ANSWER, World Can’T Wait and the International Workers Party, all of whom were central in organizing fake anti war rallies to propagandize the simple minded and advance the cause of their dream Stalinist police state.

As for the actual point of Bart’s column…which apparently went right over stoogebobs head…that’s really the true motivation driving leftists, liberals, democrats and other bottom feeders. They love gov’t because gov’t is power and power is the shortest way for losers to get even with people that, individually, they are too weak, stupid and lazy to keep up with on their own.

When you think about it, modern leftism isn’t about fairness or justice or any of that bumper sticker kiddie karma…it’s about holding motivated people back so that no one will ever get ahead. To do this the left…aka the people who supposedly care so much…misuse gov’t to force those they disagree with to bow to the gods of dumb.

Bob - you clearly have confused being afraid with being prepared.

Fear has nothing to do with why most people choose to keep a firearm with them.  It is called being prepared for potential eventualities.

Of course the anti-gun liberals who put so much faith in the government’s ability to protect them and keep them safe view such independent souls who take responsibility for their own safety and security as “paranoid” and “dangerous.“

Oh and I don’t care for Glocks.

Bobby so true! Those mean-spirited consies! Fortunately they are around when we need them—-WWI, WWII, etc. Unfortunately they have been misused and abused by “girly men”, those liberals.

Yes, we are insecure worrying about the rape of US business by Obama Jeep and a feckless DEM controlled US Congress. Many do not want to live in your socialist society of thought control, class warfare, racial preferences, income limitations and job restrictions.

I wish I could shoot that pop up ad from Business on Main to the right of me that keeps popping up.
On a recent trip to a gun show, a friend of mine was a little spooked by all the open Nazi/Klan propaganda there.
While, it is one’s right to distribute political lit, I do consider that about normal for the times we live in. At least we know where to find conservatives these days. Buying up weapons for imaginary coups coming from their fertile imaginations.
I would argue that James von Nazi, the Tiller killer, and Minuteperson Shondi ford are the true face of conservative America.
It is both laughable and paranoic, that cons are so insecure and scared of the world outside their enclaves, that they see fit to have to wear Glockwear to
eat in a restaurant.
