Put Them On a Committee, That Will Shut Them Up

CEI’s Hans Bader is worked up over comments by a “top Obama adviser,“ Charles Ogletree. I’m not. Sure, Ogletree’s views are so far out on a limb there’s no room left for the caterpillars, but I rather doubt he’s really a “top Obama adviser.“

If you follow the second link in the post, you find that

Ogletree . . . is a member of the Obama campaign’s black advisory council, which also includes Cornel West, who teaches African-American studies at Princeton University. The group formed after Obama skipped a conference on African-American issues in Hampton, Va., to announce his presidential candidacy in Illinois.

Doesn’t sound like a member of the inner circle to me! It sounds more like Obama hastily put together a toothless council to co-opt and thereby silence former and potential critics—critics who insist on being paid deference, perhaps? Fine; if they want their egos stroked, put them on a committee; that will shut them up.

Pretty cagey.

Reader Comments:

If and it is still iffy, Obama wins. This could lead to culture changes. One of those culture changes maybe the one drop rule . You know, one drop of black blood and the other genetics are tainted rule. Just suppose, being interracial becomes popular. Imagine the panic of R. Smith, Dimmer, Zip Code dude and the other resident racists here if they have grandchildren who violate the one drop rule. LOL. Just imagine if their sons and daughters bring them a “Guess who is coming to the wedding moment… LOL

Cornel West is actually Leon Spinks.

Seriously though, this same attitude of “put them on a committee to shut them up” is what universities did back in the seventies. Now they run the entire university system. It’s kind’ve like saying “hey…let’s put this virus in the appendix…nobody uses that” not realizing that viruses, like radical race baiting leftists, spread like any disease.

Interesting…so even Obama can get pushed around by radical black special interest groups. And this is the problem with giving them even a cursory acknowledgement…they take it as “approval” and next thing you know, they’re making statements that they claim to be on the behalf of their candidate (or president).

Elect Obama and you’ll long for the days of weak-kneed Christian fundamentalists.
