The Wave Might Have Broken
Bill Taggart

President Obama surfed into the White House on a tidal-surge-sized wave of popularity and support.  According to the latest Rasmussen tracking poll, however, it appears that wave might finally have crashed on the shores of reality.

Reader Comments:

Do not believe it until DEMs start losing state and national elections. Franken just won in Minn. The Senate has 60 DEMs which means they can pass whatever they want. I seriously doubt if the the GOP is competent enough to do anything about it, nor does the American taxpayer care.

Obama Jeep has long coat tails and lots of popularity. Do not let the conservative Rasmussen fool you.

Because I can probably prove that its actually normal for a ‘new guy’ prez to have the exact same popularity trends (peak at election, dive a few months after). This isn’t unique to Barack Obama.

Anyhow, good luck with your work. Win one for the gipper.

Nah.  I have actual work to do and any debate with you on this would be totally meaningless and unproductive.

I found this on a left-wing site Open Left:

“In early June of 1981, Ronald Reagan had an approval rating similar to Barack Obama’s current approval. For the first four and a half months of his Presidency, Reagan’s average net job approval was +40.86%, very close to Obama’s current average of +37.44% (all numbers from Gallup).“

Grab your coffee pot Bill. You & I are in for a long one tonight.

From the first paragraph of the linked article:

“Thirty-three percent (33%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. That matches the lowest level yet recorded.“

Hard to say how this matches up with Reagan’s ratings because it seems this particular tracking metric was not in use then.  The Rasmussen index is calculated differently than your typical approval rating, as explained on the site.

But a quick Googling indicates that Reagan had about a 65% approval rating during his first 6 months or so in office.  That plainly is better than Obama’s right now, at least based on the Rasmussen data.

Another site I found via Google shows that in May of his first year in office, Reagan had a 68% approval rating, whereas Our Dear Leader had 65% in May of this year.

Of course, we all know about such data and statistics.  But anyhow, based on not very much research at all, it seems that Reagan’s approval ratings in his first year were meaningfully higher than Obama’s currently are.

Its good that Americans are taking a more realistic view of the current Republicrat President.

But hopefully that does not mean they are sliding back to the radical Bush/Cheney agenda. Ross McKenzie STILL needs to retire and stop having printed conversations with himself.

Is this what usually happens when a ‘new guy’ rides in on a big wave of support? For example, how did Reagan’s ratings compare say 3 mos into office in 1980?

God, I never thought the American citizens would never wake up.
