And you thought you were paying too much for gasoline. . . .

Desalinated seawater from Hawaii, meanwhile, is being sold as “concentrated water”—at $33.50 for a two-ounce bottle. Like any concentrated beverage, it is supposed to be diluted before drinking, except that in this case, that means adding water to . . . water.

Ahhh…

I’ve heard of this man. The Fish Whisperer.

I know a few Bass Masters myself. They have all the gear. Bass boat capaple of 70 mph, 17 rods, 3000 sq ft of tacklebox. $40 grand worth of lures and fish ovary squeezins ect...the works.

I went fishing with one a few years ago on Chichahominy Lake. We spent all day zipping around the lake going to all the “good” spots and ended up cathing a pike and a couple crappie. So, we dicided to stop by Walkers Dam before leaving to see if the herring were running yet and while we were there, an old black guy sitting on a five gallon bucket and fihing with a kids Zebco 202...with what looked like 90 lb test line and a bobber that just barely floated pulled in a 7 lb Bass off the river side of the dam. To add insult he said, after we’d helped him get it out of the water..."I caught one like that down here last week too”.

Poetic.

A buddy of mine made a very decent living as a semi-pro bass fisherman for several years.  Bought himself several nice bass boats and a diesel-powered tow vehicle - and a house - with his winnings.  No sonar, though.  He’s taken me fishing - in his beat-up, used, $4,000 boat - and the guy is like some sort of wizard.  He can see and, I swear, hear the fish.  I see only a twig sticking up out of the water, and he says “there’s one right there.” I’m going “where?” and he tossed his line in and BAM pulls out a bass.  There definitely is a skill to it.  And I ain’t gots it, apparently.

I’ve never understood the objection to reservoirs. Firstly, they don’t stop rivers from flowing, they just back ‘em up a bit. The flow in and out is pretty much the same as before minus what we take out to drink and wash our SUV’s with. Fish migration and spawning issues can be dealt with easily with fish ladders. They create an even larger area (including wetlands!!!) to support even more wildlife, they can produce clean hydro power and most importantly, they’re great places to have BassMaster Tournaments.

I threw that last one in just because I know the only thing that grates a lefty more than the NRA is a BassMaster.

Personally, I dislike those guys too. What does it say about a man if he needs 30 grand worth of boat and sonar to catch a 4lb fish?

And don’t even get me started on hunters.

Newport News, read it and realize-

NO MATTAPONI RESERVOIR!

Keep our rivers flowing!

Someone not observant and that someone would be me.

Pob’s Bowell sounds like one of my medical conditions.

I doubt if there is any reason to expect healthcare reform here in the states will ever lack private enterprise participation due to the fact that our current system already contains a healthy (pun) dose (pun) of HMO, just as the doctor ordered (now I’m getting sickening) (pun).

Ed,

I doubt seriously that Pob is Bob. just someone agreeing with me and taking a jab at bob simultaneously.

Besides, bobs signature cliche’ is “christian confederate”, not southern christian.

Here’s one for all you nationalized health care idiots...from the “father” of Canada’s failing system.

The irony is yummy!

Bob,

You think those comments will sound like insults to R. Smith ?

He’d prolly just say “hell yeah proud of it”.

Desalination is considered a possible way to head off desertification from drought prone areas if we run out of groundwater, lakes, rivers, and deep artesian wells.

It is no panacea at all when it comes to price. If and when we turn to desalination (to a large extent) it will be due to dire need not to preference, and possibly due to better economics than available today.

Useless intellectual class ?

Words of wisdom from the git-r-done class, the source of all great potty humor and hatred for all things soft and libbish that squeech in the night.

R. Smith, that column (” Global Warming Mass Hysteria") was written by a right-wing, drunk, Southern Christian bigot waving an American flag.

Gentlemen…
Well said.
Al Gore is the pied piper. And we all know how well that turned out.Run away consumerism is what is wrong with this world. Wait until China and India develop a solid middle class that want all the goodies they never even knew existed. Light bulbs and bottled water will be the least of the planet’s problems....
